Moving Cumbria For More Than 180 Years
S. H. Brownrigg was founded in Egremont well over 180 years ago by Johnnie Brownrigg it was then passed down to his son Sam. They had horse and carriages.
In the 1930s and 1940s many changes were made and a Leyland and an AEC coach was bought along with Rolls Royce cars for weddings and funerals.
In February 1951 Sam died and the business was run by his wife Jane and their son John known locally at Jackie. When Jane died the business carried on with Jackie and his wife Vera who continued with tours, weddings and funerals. Unfortunately after a long illness in 1975 Vera died so their only daughter Irene and her husband Roy got involved in the business.
In 1984 Brownriggs out grew their premises at Bookwell and bought a two acre site at Old Mill, Egremont.
Jackie died in March 1985
The business continues now under the management of Roy and Irenes children Diane and Liza and Dianes husband Brian along with their son Anthony who is the Transport Manager
